Creative Childcare Academy & Camp was started in 1979 by Renate and Jim Breakiron, (fondly known by the children as Mr. and Mrs.B, which is so much easier to pronounce), to give children a place to grow while still enjoying a truly natural setting where they could play with animals, learn to swim, ride horses and explore and appreciate nature in ‘their’ own backyard.

It had been a childhood dream of Mrs. B to become a preschool teacher, so it was a natural progression to open an academic preschool with extended childcare for working parents when it was discovered that there was a shortage of quality childcare in the Fredericksburg area. While raising her own children, Mrs B could not have imagined life without a rewarding career in childcare.

Because of the small size of our first location at the Mini Farm, which began in a home, parents asked us to expand our services, prompting the building of the new Creative Childcare Academy & Camp at 7001 Harrison Road (located in the Harrison Crossing South retail center).

We continue to teach children to respect nature, which carries through to humans, and enjoy seeing the children grow into well-mannered, respectable adults. Over the years, we have cared for the children of former students who liked our program well enough to enroll their children, which means we must be doing something right!

We get most of our business from referrals, and when people find out what we are about, they are willing to drive out of their way to bring their child for the quality of care that we provide.
