Enrichment Classes at Creative Academy Childcare & Camp

The following enrichment classes are included in the weekly tuition:

Music and movement, art appreciation, cooking for fun, introduction to German, computer class, sign language, beginners Spanish.

Music and movement – The activities and games are based on team building, confidence and developing large motor skills. Everything is age appropriate and based on the children’s own level of comfort. Children learn to follow directions with new and old songs to dance, move and play. Yoga is part of the routine to help children calm down and breathe. The goal is to allow children to express themselves in different ways, using materials and instruments while enjoying the art of music. Moving to music comes naturally to children and students can’t wait to share their experience with their friend and family.

Art appreciation class – Children learn about primary and secondary colors and how to use the primary colors to make secondary colors. Every month children will learn about a different famous artist and the medium that the artist used to draw, paint or sculpt.  Children will be making color wheels, painting with marbles, brushes, Q-Tips, strings, straws, fingers and much more….

Cooking for fun – Children will be learning how to make healthy snacks with the program designed by a local Pediatrician. The goal is to introduce new foods that are good for our body and encourage the children to try new foods. By allowing the children to be involved in making their own healthy snack together they are more likely to eat new foods.

Computer class – Children reinforce academic skills through games. Children work in pairs on the computers so they can make new friends and there is greater peer teaching working with the computers.

Sign language – Children love to sign and learn basic words that can be used to communicate while learning to communicate with words. Many tantrums and the “Terrible Twos” are directly linked to frustration about communication. There is less frustration when your child can communicate with signs that both the child and the adult can understand.

Spanish and German classes – Studies have shown that introducing foreign languages at an early age helps children to improve their cognitive skills. Included basics are colors, shapes, alphabet, animals, songs friends and family members. Additionally, foreign language learning is much more a cognitive problem solving activity than a linguistic activity, overall. Studies have shown repeatedly that foreign language learning increases critical thinking skills, creativity, and flexibility of mind in young children. Students who are learning foreign language out-score their non-foreign language learning peers in the verbal and surprisingly to some, the math sections of standardized tests. This relationship between foreign language study and increased mathematical skill development, particularly in the area of problem solving, points once again to the fact that second language learning is more of a cognitive than linguistic activity.

The playground and Bounce House (the children’s favorite activities) – Children participate in daily outside (as weather permits) play on our state of the art playground or the bounce house in our multipurpose room so even on rainy days or hot/cold days children are able to participate in active play.
