Renate and Jim Breakiron
Creative Academy Childcare & Camp was started in 1979 by Renate and Jim Breakiron, (fondly known by the children as Mr. and Mrs.B, which is so much easier to pronounce), to give children a place to grow while still enjoying a truly natural setting where they could play with animals, learn to swim, ride horses and explore and appreciate nature in ‘their’ own backyard.
It had been a childhood dream of Mrs.B to become a preschool teacher, so it was a natural progression to open an academic preschool, with extended childcare for working parents, when it was discovered that there was a shortage of quality child care in the Fredericksburg area. While raising her own children Mrs B, could not have imagined life without a rewarding career in childcare.
The original location is called the Mini Farm, where all this was available to them every day by just stepping out the back door into their five acre camp. The children at the new locations still take field trips to the Mini Farm where our natural setting gives your children an endless playground where they can safely explore and have fun playing in the hay barn, pet the horses, cats and goats in a licensed setting.
Due to the small size of our first location at the Mini Farm, which began in a home, we were asked by parents to expand our services, which prompted the building of the new Creative Academy Childcare & Camp at 7001 Harrison Rd, (located in the Harrison Crossing South retail center). Each location is unique and offers something different in addition to creative academic programs and secure environments.
We teach children to respect nature which carries through to humans and enjoy seeing the children grow into well mannered, respectable adults, that are a benefit to society. Over the years we have cared for the children of former students who liked our program well enough to want to enroll their children, which means that we must be doing something right.
We get most of our business from referrals and when people find out what we are about they are willing to drive out of their way to bring their child for the quality of care that we provide.
